Sanjay Dutt is back in the reckoning after the huge success his biopic Sanju has received at the box office. The film directed by Rajkumar Hirani has Ranbir Kapoor essaying the role of the actor. The film has smashed many box office records and has become the biggest blockbuster of Ranbir’s life. However, it has also received flak for being a film which has tried to portray a tainted character as a man with a golden heart and a victim of circumstances. But one thing that clearly came out positively in the film was the ill-effects of drugs.
Sanjay opened up about his drug addiction in an interview given to a leading news website. Since his youth was marred with the dark episode of being a drug addict, Sanjay has tried to be a voice that advocates youngsters against the use of drugs. The actor was asked whether he actually did the kind of drugs that was shown in the film Sanju. To this, he answered, “Drug addiction is a disease which cannot be cured. Today, if I think I can smoke up a joint, I'm finished. The fear of relapse is in the first five-six months of quitting. I diverted my mind in the gym. I started feeling good with my body."
Sanjay sported a lanky frame in his youth, but once he overcame his addiction he beefed up his body. At a time when the six-pack craze had not taken the Bollywood actors, many raised questions on his physique and speculated that the actor must be on steroids. Sanjay revealed in the interview that he never took steroids. He said, “In those days, there was nothing called steroids. It was everything on a diet and normal. Then came the protein powders, and now it’s steroids. I had to clear my image. People used to think I was on drugs. So people started saying that he has a good body - and that can't happen when the person is on drugs.”
People have mixed comments on whether Sanju should have been made or not, but one thing is clear whoever, watches the film will understand that drugs are not a cool option and most probably youngsters will no longer be tempted by its allure.
