In its second week of release, Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju is still receiving love from the classes, masses and box-office. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial has become the filmmaker’s second highest grosser after PK and surpassing the lifetime business by 3 Idiots. Sanju has also become the only non-holiday opener, second to Baahubali, to enjoy such an impressive inning at the ticket counters. And what' more, the film is smoothly cruising its way towards the coveted Rs 300 crore club.
Now with the ongoing excitement for the film at home turf, Hirani is taking his last release to international territories. Hirani will be one of the key guests who will celebrate Indian Cinema along with the diaspora at IFFM. Of the unique theme, Raju said, “I’m looking forward to the festival this year especially since the festival is championing the theme of inclusion in cinema. Also happy that the IFFM jury has nominated our film Sanju in various categories. Look forward to being in Melbourne ” Sanju has been nominated for best film, director, actor and supporting performance at the IFFM Awards.
Apparently, the Sanjay Dutt biopic has been selected to represent Indian cinema at La Trobe University in Melbourne, as the institution celebrates the theme of inclusion this year. He will introduce the film, talk about Sanjay Dutt and show them a very different sort of biopic. For many, this will be their first Bollywood film ever. On talking about the screening he said, "It’s always an enriching experience when people of different diaspora watch our films. I look forward to the special screening of Sanju for the students at La Trobe. It would be an interesting experience to see the reactions of those who are almost alien to Hindi films and the life of Sanjay Dutt."
Considering Sanjay Dutt's popularity in India, it won't be wrong to say that Hirani already knew that a film on the actor's life will pique interest among the audience. But whether the film strikes a chord among the international audience too, is still left to be seen.
