Ajay Devgn confirms playing the role of Chanakya in Neeraj Pandey's next

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn who was last seen in Raj Kumar Gupta’s film Raid has many lucrative projects in his kitty. He will soon be teaming up with Ranbir Kapoor in Luv Ranjan’s next and also has Total Dhamaal coming up for release later this year. Now, the actor has announced that he will be playing the role of Chanakya in a film directed by Neeraj Pandey. The film is based on the 4th century BC scholar, advisor, strategist, teacher and economic and political strategist and royal advisor Chanakya.

Ajay took to Twitter today to announce his forthcoming project with Neeraj. The film will focus on the incredible life teachings of the ancient scholar. It is produced by Reliance Entertainment and Friday Filmworks’ company and Plan C Studios. In a press statement, Neeraj had said, “I have been developing this film on Chanakya for some time now. It is an exciting work of passion for me, and I am sure audiences will love Ajay’s portrayal of the visionary genius.”

Ajay also was quoted as saying, “I am truly looking forward to playing Chanakya. I have observed Neeraj Pandey’s work closely and I know Neeraj will tell this story with the clarity and passion that it needs to be told.” The release date and the rest of the cast are yet to be finalized for the film.

Chanakya is also known as Kautilya or Vishnugupta. He wrote the ancient Indian political treatise Arthashastra. He is considered as a pioneer of the field of political science and economics in India. Chanakya helped establish the Mauryan Empire by assisting Chandragupta Maurya in his rise to power and served as the chief advisor to both Emperors Chandragupta and his son Bindusara. Many literary works, plays, films and television plays have already been made on the life and teachings of Chanakya and he remains one of the most enigmatic and popular figures of ancient India. A 1991 TV show titled Chanakya, directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, went on to become a critical success and still remains popular.
