Helmed by Shaad Ali, Soorma has been shot in Sandeep Singh’s hometown Shahabad to capture the real essence of his struggle and the journey to become the hockey legend. Soorma is an inspiring true story of the human spirit, about a player, who made headlines for his miraculous comeback after an unfortunate accident.

Produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions, Chitrangda Singh, and Deepak Singh, Soorma is slated to release on July 13, 2018. The film features Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi in pivotal roles.

Mwanwhile, Soorma has a direct competition from Akshay Kumar’s Gold which is also based on hockey, and hence comparisons are bound to be made. However, while Soorma is a biopic, Gold is inspired by India’s triumph in the 1948 Olympics where it won its first gold medal as a sovereign state.
