The first half of 2018 is over, and Bollywood has witnessed quite many stellar stories so far. The year began with Ranveer Singh delivering his career-best performance as the notorious Alauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat which released on January 25. Not only did he take home critical acclaim and laurels but also reserved a secure spot in the upcoming awards show season.
Cut to June 29. Ranbir Kapoor, who Ranveer once called "the barometer of good work," shone all the way for his magnificent portrayal of Sanjay Dutt in his biopic Sanju. Not only did Ranbir match up to Dutt's physical demeanour but he effortlessly slipped into the very psyche of the actor, during every phase of his life thereby becoming an extension of the star. Rest assured, it won't be an easy pick for the jury next year! And even Ranbir himself feels that he has been pitted against Ranveer as 'competition,' after the ginormous success of Sanju.
"I've seen Ranveer in 'Padmaavat' and I was really bowled over by his performance. I thought he was phenomenal. I've now been pitted against Ranveer as 'competition'. It's amazing to have that. It only pushes us to do better work," RK told a leading news agency.
However, it is a healthy competition between RK and RS, he says so. Added Ranbir, "He (Ranveer) inspires and excites me. There are times his films do better business than mine and hopefully there will be a time when my films will be doing better business. It will be an interesting pattern."
What's more? Ranbir reveals he and Ranveer have been offered films opposite each other, but they haven't greenlit any just yet. "We are two actors who have their own sensibilities. We can't come together just as a project. It has to be liked by both of us, individually. I am really looking forward to working with him and also Varun and Tiger.
"When you do a two-hero film, you share the burden. It's also easier because you have a partner-in-crime and you can have a lot of fun on sets too," said Ranbir while talking to the news agency.
Interestingly, Ranveer was the first choice for Sanju which eventually fell into Ranbir's lap. The Kapoor scion has finally bounced back in the box office game with his recent number-spinner entering the Rs 100 crore club in its opening weekend itself!
From the carefree Bunny in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani to a hearing and speech-impaired Barfi in Barfi! the introvert Ved in Tamasha and the flamboyant but childish Ayan in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil - versatility has been as much as the mainstay in Ranbir's Bollywood portfolio as much Ranveer's. It would be a treat for fans of both the handsome men if they ever decide to star in a project together!
