New directions: Imran to turn director with a short film and we are sure Aamir approves

The filmmaking gene sure runs in the family… Imran Khan, who is the nephew of actor Aamir Khan and director-producer Mansoor Khan, and the grandson of director-producer Nasir Hussain, will soon make his move into direction. Word emerges that the actor, who had debuted in 2008 with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, is prepping to direct a short film soon. Prep is still on, as the scripting and writing is in progress. Casting will be finalized after Imran returns from his family vacation for which he is leaving tomorrow.

The film will apparently be produced by a brand known for supporting short films and web series formats. However, Imran’s will be a standalone film which will be shown in theatres.
Imran Khan’s acting career has not been going great guns since a while now. He was last seen in Nikhil Advani's film Katti Batti alongside Kangana Ranaut. However, the film didn't win over audiences and was a flop at the box office.

In the course of his 10-year-old career, Imran has managed four hits. Earlier this year news broke that his uncle, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan would give his sagging career the boost it needs. It was reported that Aamir was planning a grand comeback for his nephew Khan, in his ambitious Mahabharata series. It was also mentioned that it wasn’t clear yet which role Imran would play in this multi-starrer.

However, with Aamir still busy with Thugs of Hindostan and yet to confirm whether he will revisit the epic mythological, Imran has no choice but cool his heels on the acting front.
His move into direction could indeed bring new direction to his life. Some years ago, in the course of an interview, Imran had revealed his discontent with the way the industry has treated him. “I have never felt I quite got my due,” he had said. “I have often felt that in my career I have done good films, hit movies but the credit somehow goes to the director and people say ‘he made him act’ or to the promotions. But when a film flops the responsibility is mine…”

Well, change could be just around the corner!
