Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is all set to reunite once again with his Rang De Basanti writer Rensil D’Silva for a light-hearted drama that revolves around conflicts pertaining to generation gap. Mehra has locked in the script and is in the final stages of casting for the film. The film is scheduled to go on floors by the year-end. The two had collaborated previously on Aks and Rang De Basanti and is all set to team up once again for a comedy film.
Mehra shared the deatils with a leading daily, “There has been a paradigm shift in the world in the last 15 years, especially with the present generation. The film is my salute to them.”
The film took time to come to fruition as the director was busy wrapping up a social-drama called Mere Pyaare Prime Minister. The film Mere Pyaare Prime Minister depicts the story of an eight-year-old boy who wants to build a toilet for his single mother.

Talking about his new film on the generational conflict, Mehra maintains that in order to understand the younger generation one needs to understand the generation before them. He says that he is learning new things everyday from his children – 19-year-old daughter Bhairavi and 17-year-old son Vedant. The new film of Mehra will explore peer pressure, competition and the fleeting relationships that the younger generation have. He said, “I place myself in their shoes and I think that life has demanded a lot less from my generation. It wasn’t exactly la la land for us, but today there are demands of the society, of friend circles, of work places. Everything has gone through a transition and we are on the brink of a new social order, one that is more gender-neutral. The choices you have to make in life in this age are very different. And we’re going to explore that.”
Recently, reports of Ranveer Singh meeting with the filmmaker started doing the rounds and the director has revealed that he would be casting several actors for various crucial roles in the film. The role of a father and son is the most integral part of the narrative. Ranveer is speculated to be teaming up with Mehra in a collaboration soon. However, it is not clear whether he will do this film or another sports related film that the director is keen to make.
Shahid Kapoor was also in talks with the director and was snapped meeting him in Bandra in March. However, nothing concrete has come out yet and the director maintains that he is still in the initial stages of casting. Mehra said, “The characters of the father and son stand out in the film. They are extremely challenging but fun roles. I’ll be able to offer the actors something new that they can look forward to.”
