Rajkumar Hirani has a new story to tell on why Aamir Khan rejected Sunil Dutt's role in Sanju

Aamir Khan had revealed a few days back that he declined a part in Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju because he could only see himself playing Sanjay Dutt in the film. At the big trailer launch event of the movie today, May 30, in Mumbai, the director talked about what actually happened in the meeting with Aamir the other day.

When asked how did he feel when Khan refused to do his film, Hirani revealed that he had not gone to him with the intention of casting him in Sanju. He narrated the entire incident and said that it was 'out of greed' that he had asked Aamir to play the character of Sanjay's father, actor Sunil Dutt.

"Aamir is a friend. Whenever we write a script, I go to him and narrate him for his reaction. I narrated this script to him as well, not with the intention of asking him to play the role. He reacts very interestingly to the script. He liked the script. Then, just out of greed, I said 'Aamir, will you play Dutt sa'ab's role, the father's role?' He took it very seriously and he gave it a thought. When I met him next week again, he showed me Dangal. He said 'look, I am already playing an older role and if my next film after this has me in another older role, then people will stop giving me a young man's role.' Which was a valid argument. Finally, we have Paresh ji playing Dutt sa'ab," elaborated Hirani at the launch event.

Earlier, the superstar, who had worked in Hirani's PK, talked to the media about Sanju and said, "He (Hirani) approached me with the script and I loved it. He wanted me to play Dutt saab’s role. It is a fantastic role and the story is largely on the father-son relationship. But Sanju’s role is unbelievable."

He added, "So as an actor, I told Raju that Sanjay Dutt’s role is so wonderful that it won my heart. So in this film I can’t do any other role but Sanjay Dutt’s, which of course I cannot do because Ranbir (Kapoor) is playing it. So, do not offer me anything."

As is, actor Paresh Rawal seems to be doing more-than-justice to his character in Sanju. It would be interesting to see him performing Dutt Sa'ab on screen. Watch the trailer of the film here:
