Sandeep Reddy Vanga confirms Shahid Kapoor to play lead in Hindi remake of 'Arjun Reddy'

There were a lot of speculations on who would be playing the lead role in the Hindi remake of Telugu film Arjun Reddy. Arjun Kapoor was almost finalized but then the topic diverted to Padmaavat actor Shahid Kapoor. Still, no confirmation was coming from either the filmmaker’s or the actor’s end. However, now laying all rumours to rest director Sandeep Reddy Vanga took to his Facebook page and posted a picture along with Shahid, and producers Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde.

The news comes as a confirmation on the lead actor who would essay the titular role in the film. Sandeep wrote on Facebook, “Its official today. My second film is with Shahid Kapoor. Produced by Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde.” Sandeep will be making his Bollywood debut with the film which will have some other title other than the original.

The remake rights of Arjun Reddy was bought by Khetani and Yarde for a whopping amount of Rs 7 crore. The film is scheduled to go on floors in July. Arjun Reddy was a runaway hit and the lead actor Vijay Deverakonda received rave reviews on his performance. The Telugu film is said to be a contemporary take on Devdas and revolves around a surgeon with anger management issues. He turns to consuming alcohol and drugs when the girl he is in love with is forced to get married to someone else. The romantic saga presented in the modern way will appeal to masses across the nation. Shalini Pandey, who played the female lead in the original is supposed to reprise her role in the Hindi version as well.

The film is also being remade in Tamil with Dhruv Vikram, son of Tamil actor Chiyaan Vikram making his debut with the film. The Tamil version will not be helmed by Sandeep but will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Bala.
