The trailer of Alia Bhatt’s Raazi released a couple of days back and by the looks of it, the film looks promising. Directed by Meghna Gulzar who earlier directed Filhaal and Talvar, this Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal starrer is not your regular Bollywood masala movie. Alia is seen as a dutiful wife and daughter Sehmat, but in reality, she is a spy working for India and garnering intelligence in the 1971 war. The film stars Soni Razdan, Rajit Kapoor and Jaideep apart from Alia and Vicky Kaushal.

Now, another video has been released by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions where director Meghna and Alia talks about decoding the character of Sehmat (Alia’s character in the film). The video shows Alia learning Morse code, learning to fight, handling weapons, driving a Jonga and even practising shooting. Alia does a commendable job of decoding Sehmat, the ordinary girl caught in extraordinary circumstances.
Raazi is based on a true story of a young girl who is sent to Pakistan in 1971 to dig out intelligence information when the war was becoming imminent. Speaking about her role, Alia had said, “The guilt that Sehmat feels as a wife was the toughest to portray. There were these points in the script where Meghna wrote, ‘Sehmat gives a knowing look’. I used to wonder what it means. We used to giggle about it, but when she explained it to me, I realised what she meant. Sehmat is around so many people, and she’s seeing and hearing so many things. She cleverly camouflages her true feelings with fake reactions that will go well with the people around her at that point. I wondered how I would give ‘that look’. Portraying a spy in the garb of a wife was difficult.”
After watching the video we must say that Alia and Meghna have done a commendable job in decoding the character of Sehmat, a young girl who was also an unsung hero in the 1971 war fought between India and Pakistan.
