Appearing on panel discussions can be dangerous too, when it comes to sensitive issues… Actress Kunickaa Sadanand, who has starred with Salman Khan in many films including Hum Saath Saath Hain, has experienced this first hand. She has apparently received death threats and obscene messages from certain members of the Bishnoi community over her recent comments on the 1998 blackbuck poaching case.
It started when, during a panel debate for a TV news channel, Kunickaa declared that Salman should be made to do community work which would be more beneficial than serving a jail term. During a debate, she allegedly also said that even Bishnois are hunters. Apparently, she wanted to add that just like there are non-vegetarians in vegetarian communities, the same way... However, she was interrupted before she could complete her statement.
Not surprisingly, her comments have sparked off a controversy. Kunickaa apparently started receiving phone calls from a man named Santosh Bishnoi, insisting she apologises for her comments on the TV debate. While she agreed to do so as she had no proof about Bishnois being non-vegetarian, it did not stop the calls coming in. Instead, she was further targeted on her Facebook account.
After she was reportedly threatened with legal action, Kunickaa decided to post a video online which showed her apologising for her comment. This move, however, did not bring the desired result: after the video, she started receiving more threats!
Armed with records of all the threatening phone calls and abusive messages she has received, Kunickaa Sadanand has filed a police complaint at Mumbai’s Oshiwara police station under Section 506/507 against the Bishnoi community. She also claims that her address and phone numbers were leaked on social media by them. She has been given police protection.
On the other hand, some members of the Bishnoi community in Jodhpur have also filed a complaint against the actress for her statements which have purportedly hurt their sentiments. However, Kunickaa maintains she has not been officially intimated of this complaint.
