Anurag Kashyap has been trolled umpteen times and he invariably gives it right back to the haters – without hitting below the belt. Recently, the filmmaker had an encounter with his online critics on the TV reality show ‘Troll Police’. These are the people who bluntly accuse him of being a sell-out ever since he moved to making more commercial movies. They also accused him of being involved in the casting couch, besides criticising him for using excessive violence and lowdown dialogues to sell his films.
Kashyap took the criticism on his chin sportingly and explained himself as best he could. He also pointed out, “People misuse the freedom and anonymity that the internet provides and use social media to make snarky comments on people. These comments range from nasty personal attacks to abuses and disrespect of a person’s work. They feel they have done nothing wrong if they use a fake ID to harass someone.”

While encouraging youngsters to go ahead and share their opinion online, he advised them to always maintain basic ethics and to respect individuals even if they disagreed with them. “Passing a judgment on people, body-shaming, slut-shaming them and abusing them can adversely affect the reputation and mental health of a person. Voice your opinion but be mindful of the rights of the other person as well,” he cautioned.
Earlier this year, Anurag had a nasty run-in with miscreants, who had leaked his phone number on social media. He had come under attack for his last film Mukkabaaz, which addressed the issues of caste politics and cow vigilantism in UP.
He had also faced severe trolling for standing up for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. “Can for once the whole film industry come together and take a stand, and refuse to be a pony that all bullshit and bullshitters ride on?? At the same time Shame on you Karni Sena, you make me feel ashamed to be a Rajput.. bloody spineless cowards ..Hindu extremists have stepped out of twitter into the real world now.. and Hindu terrorism is not a myth anymore,” he had written. The backlash, as you can imagine, was intense!
