2018 has been an incredible year for Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma! While Ranveer has received unimaginable acclaim for his portrayal of the merciless Alauddin Khilji, Anushka is being widely revered for breaking new grounds as a film producer along with her brother Karnesh Sharma.
Ranveer’s acting as Khilji in Padmaavat has been hailed as ‘outstanding’ and ‘path-breaking’ and both critics and audiences have unanimously credited him for giving Bollywood one of its most iconic villains of all time.
So, it comes as no surprise that Ranveer has been awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award as Best Actor this year for Padmaavat. Some of Hindi cinema’s biggest stars have been recognized with this award in the past for their contribution to cinema. This is already the third Best Actor award that Ranveer has picked up for Padmaavat. Given his brilliance in the film, this year should be a clean sweep for Ranveer.
On the other hand, Anushka to be honoured as Path Breaking Producer for her efforts in backing clutter-breaking content which has become genre-defining success stories.
At the peak of her career as a superstar, she turned the youngest producer ever (Anushka was 25!) with a commitment to quality and desire to make entertaining cinema that pushed the content envelope.
Given that their three home productions of Clean Slate Films have won applause from critics and movie buffs as well as become success stories, the Dadasaheb Phalke Foundation has decided to honour her contribution.
