Happy Birthday Jaya Bachchan: 5 things the outspoken lady said that had us gasping!

In the very politically correct circles of B-town where fake flattery is at its best (worst?!), Jaya Bachchan is something of an anomaly.

The lady, who turns 70 today, is a hugely gifted actress and also happens to be blessed with a say-it-like-it-is manner. Her own family is the soul of discretion but Jaya Bachchan – more power to her! – will say just as she pleases!

HERE ARE 5 TIMES SHE SHOT FROM THE LIP...

  • Karan Johar revealed that he is actually scared to invite Jaya to his film screenings. He shared, “Actually whatever Jaya Bachchan feels she will say on your face and she doesn’t hide anything. If you are inviting Jayaji to your movie screening then you have to be ready for her review also. If she likes the movie then only she would say she liked it otherwise she would not hesitate in saying you disappointed.” And you can be sure she has done just that umpteen times!

  • At Subhash Ghai's party last year, a group of photographers had earned a quick rebuke from Jaya Bachchan. Jaya and Aishwarya were requested for a photo op. The cameramen called out, ‘Aishwarya, Aishwarya’ to the actress, to pose for them, but Mrs. Bachchan Senior was not amused. She pulled them up, “What Aishwarya, Aishwarya, does she study in your class?”

  • At Esha Deol's godh-bharai ceremony she smartly reminded the star-struck priest to concentrate on his duties. Apparently, the gent got carried away and started taking selfies with star guests. Till Jaya stepped in and calmly reminded, “Please focus on your prayers.”

  • At a college festival, she rapped the students for constantly clicking her photographs. “Please stop taking pictures. I hate it because it's right in my eyes. These are basic manners we Indians have to learn. Just because you have a camera and a mobile, you get the freedom of click anyone's picture anytime, without asking that person,” she declared. “I'm sorry for sounding like a great-grandmother but that's what I am!” she added.

  • She had also lost her cool at the launch of her sister-in-law Ramola Bachchan's store in 2014. When asked a question unrelated to the store by a reporter, she retorted, “You tell me, is this the place to ask me this question? Don't act smart with me.”

We wish the robust lady keeps up with her candour and outspokenness in the years to come.
