In the shadows: Irrfan’s latest post is truly touching…

Irrfan, who has been diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour, shared a poignant post early Tuesday. He wrote, “God speaks to each of us as he makes us, then walks with us silently out of the night. These are the words we dimly hear: You, sent out beyond your recall, go to the limits of your longing. Embody me. Flare up like a flame and make big shadows I can move in. Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final. Don’t let yourself lose me. Nearby is the country they call life. You will know it by its seriousness. Give me your hand.” The actor quoted these lines from Book of Hours, I 59 by Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke, posted along with an image of his shadow.

This has been a challenging time for the star, who has been struck by a rare condition where cancerous cells produce hormones, thereby damaging the endocrine balance of the body.

Irrfan had previously also shared that he would be moving out of the country for further treatment. While there was speculation that he would be going to the United States for his treatment, reports suggest the actor has left for London instead.

Neuroendocrine Tumour, while being a rare disease, is also curable, depending on the location of the tumour, its size and its mytotic index. They can be taken out surgically depending on where the tumour is localised and the chances of cure are very high.
Earlier this month, Irrfan had released a statement on social media in which he revealed that in his search of "rare stories" he found a "rare disease." This was followed by Irrfan's wife Sutapa Sikdar’s Facebook post requesting fans of the actor to refrain from speculating about his disease. She said that her actor-husband was "fighting every obstacle with tremendous grace and beauty."

Last week, Irrfan revealed that he has been diagnosed with neuro-endocrine tumour and that he will be treated abroad for it. "Learning that I have been diagnosed with neuro-endocrine tumour as of now has admittedly been difficult, but the love and strength of those around me and that I found within me has brought me to a place of hope," he said in his statement.
