If Padmaavat had to face its trial by fire before emerging victorious, it’s been repaid many, many times over since!
Its very release was under a cloud at one point but ever since the film hit theatres on January 25, it has been ploughing on, on the path of triumph. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial had crossed the Rs.200-crore mark in its second weekend. Now, the bounty grows even larger… the historical has crossed the Rs.300 crore mark in 50 days!
It has carried all those invested in it to greatness as well. Padmaavat has become the highest-grossing film of Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor as well as Bhansali.
The film also made personal history for leading lady Deepika Padukone. She became the highest paid actress in B-town with this film, besides earning more than her male co-stars in the film, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.

Padmaavat has also brought praise galore for the performances of the trio.
Deepika has won copious compliments for her power-packed acting coupled with her perfect expressions. Critics and audiences have been gushing over her strong, regal act as Queen Padmavati who preferred death over dishonour. While Amitabh Bachchan and Neetu and Rishi Kapoor were just some of the many who expressed their admiration, veteran lyricist-writer-poet Javed Akhtar went ahead and declared that the film was her Mother India, no less!
Shahid Kapoor, who shared a poster and wrote, “Celebrating 50 days of the magic of #Padmaavat!” has been lauded for his performance as Maharawal Ratan Singh, while Ranveer Singh has set another benchmark for himself as the cruel Alauddin Khilji. The creator, Bhansali, who is now hailed among Hindi cinema’s greats, says, “I would say I’m more blessed than I’m cursed. Even though Padmaavat has gone through so many problems, today it is getting its due.”
Back when the film was facing violent protests for alleged presentation of wrong facts, Deepika had stated, “There is some energy that is beyond all of us… Our heart is in the right place. Our creative energies are in the right place… She (Rani Padmini) is around blessing the film.”
Deepika was perhaps right after all…
