B.O Report: Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety enters 50-crore club, Pari steadily rises

Nushrat Bharucha, Kartik Aryan and Sunny Singh starrer 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' is winning hearts and the box office collections. The film within 10 days of its release has already entered the Rs 50 crore club and stands steadily in the second week.

The film earned Rs 45.94 crore in its first week (Friday - Rs 6.42 Crore, Saturday - Rs 9.34 Crore, Sunday - Rs 10.81 Crore, Monday - Rs 5.17 Crore, Tuesday- Rs 4.93 Crore, Wednesday- Rs 4.41 Crore, Thursday - Rs 4.86 Crore). After earning Rs 5.83 crore on Friday and Rs 6.55 crore on Saturday, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety stands at Rs 58.32 Crore so far.

In an interview with a leading daily, when Kartik was asked about the outstanding box numbers, he said, "Of course, I am. I think this film is the turning point of my career. What is happening right now is surreal. Bahut alag feeling hai. I had expected it to do well but the kind of success that it’s turning out to be is outstanding."

"I wanted to take small steps but SKTKS has turned out to be a major step in my career. I can’t talk about the star status, only time will tell. But the kind of response the film is getting is speaking for itself. I’m really happy. I don’t think about any league. Everything is just falling into place," added Kartik.

In the meantime, while Pari was off to a slow start due to Holi as many theatres were close, the film earned Rs 4.36 crore on its opening day, despite no-release in many South markets.

It looks like to release the movie on a festival like Holi has backfired for the makers as Sanjay Chatar, leading distributor for Central India, says, “Major cinema halls in MP and Chattisgarh areas don’t play movies on the Holi in the morning; if they begin operations they start off only at 6 pm. Rajasthan begins only after 4 pm. So the film’s business in these crucial territories will only emerge over the weekend”

However, the box office collection did see an upward trend for Anushka Sharma starrer as it garnered a total of Rs 5.47 crore on Saturday. The total collection currently stands at Rs 9.83 crore.

“Pari is doing superbly in West Bengal. Literally, I had a feeling before the release that it will do well in West Bengal as the maximum shooting was done here. We had opened wide releasing in 118 theatres across Bengal which is a good number for a movie like this. Today it has opened with 100 percent occupancy in some the singles screens (Priya, Menoka, Star) as well as multiplexes (Inox, Pvr, Cinepolis, Carnival). I am really hopeful that the numbers will be great and at the box office it will be one of the biggest hits of 2018,” says West Bengal distributor Satadeep Saha of SSR Cinemas Pvt Ltd.
