At the age of 54, with no history of any serious ailments, Sridevi passed away due to a cardiac arrest. She was on a happy track in her life, with her daughters stepping into the industry and her husband by her side all the time. During the India Today Summit in 2013, the famous producer Boney Kapoor got candid and revealed the love story Sridevi and he shared. He said, “I fell in love with Sri (Sridevi) when I watched her Tamil film during the late 1970s. After watching her film, I wanted to know more about her. I had specially gone to Chennai to her house to meet her, but she was shooting in Singapore. I returned to Mumbai disheartened."

He spoke about how it all started after he watched her film Solva Sawan (1979). In that instant, he decided to go visit her on the sets of her film. But being the introvert she was, she redirected him to her mother. On conversing with Boney, Sridevi's mother quoted an exaggerated fee of Rs. 10 lakh for Mr. India. "When she asked for Rs. 10 lakh, I said no. I’ll pay her Rs. 11 lakhs… because I wanted to be close to Sri. Her mother was completely impressed with me," Boney said.
The film finally went on the floor after many dreams and "I made sure she was comfortable on the sets (of Mr. India). I personally took care of everything. There were no vanity vans at that time, but I arranged for a separate makeup room for her. Gradually, she felt comfortable with me," At this time, Boney was already married to Mona Shourie Kapoor with two kids, Arjun and Anshula. But his love for Sri wasn’t something to fade away. He spent more time with Sridevi during Chandni in Switzerland and "After coming back, I told my first wife what I had felt for Sri," Boney said.
When the couple finally got married, Sridevi was tagged as home-breaker and many other tags."I fell in love with him when I got to know the real him. It was difficult, traumatic even and it took me many years to finally accept the fact that I was destined to be with Boney. In hindsight, I only wish that I had realized and accepted his love for me sooner. I always believe in following my heart and I am glad that I did," she said. The couple who have been kept their personal life completely personal will be remembered for years.
