Five years after SOTY, Sidharth to play a student again

The dishy Sidharth Malhotra could soon be signing his next as a student – this time of an engineering college. The actor had made his debut in Student of the Year five years ago, playing Abhimanyu "Abhi" Singh who arrives at St. Theresa’s College and becomes the classy new heartthrob. He had won hearts for his role as the perfect student and a perfect man.

He will probably win them all over again, as a college fresher with the new film he is currently in talks for. A remake of the Kannada hit film Kirik Party, it tells the story of a gang of mischievous students, led by the protagonist, who has just joined an engineering college. They belong to different streams of engineering but develop a bond while staying together in the hostel.

The treatment of the original, directed by Rakshit Shetty, was stylish with light humor throughout while exploring the college life of these youngsters. Amidst all the fun and games, certain incidents impact Karna’s life, leading to him questioning his very basic thought process. Naturally, there is a love angle too; a fun-loving girl who loves him back.
The progression of the students from a bunch of mischief makers to responsible adults is the theme of Kirik Party. The film had become one of the highest grossing Kannada films of all time, after it released in December 2016. Besides Hindi, the film is also being remade in Telugu.

A still from Kirik Party

Buzz has it that Sidharth has loved the script and has already had meetings with producer Ajay Kapoor, who possesses the remake rights of Kirik Party. He loves his part but is yet to sign on the dotted line. While he is reportedly looking forward to starting work on this remake, it will be interesting to see who the rest of the cast will comprise.

Sidharth will soon be seen in the spy thriller Aiyaary, playing an army officer. “This is the first time I have a story and a script that can make a difference and has a message for the youth of this country,” he said recently.
