Sonakshi or Taapsee – who will be the Girl in Blue?

The role is that of Indian women’s cricket team captain, Mithali Raj. A remarkable sportswoman, Mithali is at the top of her game. She has the honour of leading the Indian’s women’s cricket team twice in the ICC World Cup finals, in 2005 and 2017. To top that, she also holds the record for being the highest run-scorer in One Day Internationals (ODIs) with 6,000 runs to her credit.

No wonder then that both Sonakshi Sinha and Taapsee Pannu have set their respective caps at this thumper of a role, hoping the selectors will smile on them. Buzz goes that Viacom is rather perplexed trying to figure which actress they should opt for, to lead their film. It is not proving to be an easy decision to make…

Sonakshi comes with great screen presence, a famous surname, hits like Dabangg, Rowdy Rathore and Son of Sardar in her kitty, and a flair for offbeat films as well as seen in Ittefaq and Noor.

Taapsee, on the other hand, has grabbed eyeballs with her roles radiating power in Pink, Baby and Naam Shabana. What’s more, her last film, Judwaa 2 was one of 2017’s few big hits.

The field is evidently wide open!

Not one to mince words, the 30-year-old Taapsee had opened up recently about the importance of commercial success over critical acclaim. “My aim is to see how every film of mine fares, and to accordingly use my strengths in the next film. I also intend not to repeat the mistakes I’ve made in the past. I see the result of one film, and then choose what I do next,” she stated, adding that her goal is to become a commercially-reliable actor. She will next be seen in Soorma, the biopic of hockey player Sandeep Singh.

Sonakshi, meanwhile, has been grabbing attention for the trailer of the multi-starrer Welcome To New York. An out and out entertainer, it sees an unlikely couple, Hero (Diljit Dosanjh) who is a sloppy recovery agent, and Jeenal Patel (Sonakshi), a fashion designer, who somehow become part of a big Bollywood event that is to take place in New York.
