Bollywood is not surprised with the announcement that Dangal actress Sanya Malhotra is doing Junglee Pictures’ Badhaai Ho opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. What is surprising people is that Sanya’s Facebook details list her as a “former actor” at Aamir Khan Productions. That Sanya, and Fatima Sana Shaikh – the Dangal lead actress, are protégés of Aamir Khan is known. They not only got the opportunity to plays his daughters in Dangal but both girls also bagged internships at Aamir’s production house to learn the finer nuances of filmmaking.

Now while Fatima’s Facebook page says she “works at Aamir Khan Productions”, Sanya appears to have moved on in life.

A Bollywood social media guru said that, perhaps, Fatima hadn’t changed her Facebook status because she was still working with Aamir. They are doing Yash Raj Films’ Thugs of Hindostan along with Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif. It is certainly not an Aamir Khan Productions’ film, but the fact remains that Fatima and Aamir are together, and this is her first film after Dangal. Whereas Sanya after Dangal has already completed Ritesh Batra’s Photographer opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui and is now ready to start Badhaai Ho with Ayushmann. The actress has clearly moved out of Aamir’s camp and is now looking after herself in the big bad world of Bollywood.

The actress, who is just 23, is kicked about Badhaai Ho. In a media interview, Sanya said she laughed through the first narration and instantly decided she had to be part of this film. “It’s a funny and quirky story in which I play a bubbly girl,” she said of Badhaai Ho and her character. She’s shared screen space with Ayushmann in an ad film before but admitted that she was in the background then. Now what Sanya is hoping to do in Badhaai Ho is showcase her dancing skills. “I want to play roles that excite me creatively,” she said. Her role in this coming of age film in which a family grapples with some unexpected news is not a “rigorous” role, Sanya added. “Means, thankfully I am not wrestling in this one.”
