Ghoomar’s coming tomorrow. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is raising the curtain on the song featuring the statuesque Deepika Padukone from his period drama Padmavati finally. And fans of the filmmaker who still can’t stop talking about the Deewani Mastani number from his epic historic romance Bajirao Mastani are waiting in breathless excitement.
You already know that Deepika kicked off her Padmavati schedule for Bhansali in December 2016 with Ghoomar. Though details of the song are under wraps, sources say in hushed whispers of awe that Bhansali and Deepika have outdone their magic of the blockbuster Bajirao Mastani. Deepika is reportedly mesmerizing in Ghoomar which is a traditional Rajput dance performed by veiled women wearing flowing ghagras at weddings and religious festivals.
Apparently, a lot of effort went into filming Ghoomar. Bhansali created an extravagant set at Mumbai’s Mehboob Studios over 60 days to resemble the Chittor Fort in Rajasthan where Padmavati’s shooting was to take place before the Karni Sena attacked the sets and sent him running to Mumbai.
“The scale of grandeur of the set, the extravagance of the costumes, the Kishangarh and Tehartaali musicians brought down from Rajasthan, the illumination provided by 400 lamps, the fire dancers, have to be seen to be believed,” said the sources of Ghoomar. Bhansali who is known for bringing grandiose and opulence alive on the screen put Deepika through extensive training for the song and it is said to show in his picturisation of Ghoomar.
Deepika, who plays Rani Padmini in Padmavati, is seen wearing a typical Rajasthani ghoomar (the dress, this time, in red and yellow) in the song. The film’s designers Rimple and Harpreet Narula reportedly said that the Ghoomarsequence is simply out of this world. Peeping Moon.com sources add that Bhansali was especially careful to ensure that not a step was out of place which would distress anybody and cause them to raise objections. The wait is finally over. Ghoomar comes tomorrow. And Padmavati on December 1.
