Siddharth Malhotra, Harshvardhan Kapoor look to revive their careers with biopics

It's raining biopics in Bollywood again. This time, the film industry is reportedly making one on Kargil martyr Capt. Vikram Batra. The Indian Army soldier of the 13 Jammu & Kashmir Rifles was killed while leading a tough operation in mountain warfare against the Pakistani Army in the Kargil War of 1999. He was respectfully referred to as "Sher Singh" by the Pakistani Army.

While the production house keen on making this biopic remains unknown, the story doing the rounds is that Siddharth Malhotra is keen on playing Capt. Batra. If the biopic happens, Sid will be required to play a double role again because the slain soldier had an identical twin. Bollywood loves this kind of twist. Sid recently played a double role in his last film A Gentleman that tanked at the box office. Right now Sid is busy giving Neeraj Pandey's Aiyaary and Abhay Chopra's Itefaq his full attention. The actor, who suffered back-to-back flops with his last two films, is desperate for a hit.

The other biopic being considered is Kannan Iyer's on 2008 Olympic gold medalist shooter Abhinav Bindra. This will be an adaptation of the shooter's autobiography A Shot At History. Harshvardhan Kapoor, who failed to impress in his debut film Mirzya last year, is being groomed for the role and will take it up when he finishes Vikramaditya Motwane's Bhavesh Joshi. "A biopic is a great responsibility," Harshvardhan is quoted as having said. It will be produced by his father Anil Kapoor and cousin Arjun Kapoor.

But before these films are even made, Bollywood will have two biopics out in quick succession soon. This Friday, Arjun Rampal's Daddy based on gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli will finally see release. And after that, Apoorva Lakhiya's Haseena Parkar that is scripted on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's sister by the same name will hit the screens on September 22. Shraddha Kapoor plays the title role in this crime-based biopic.
