On Day four of the FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week, the major sartorial guns came out firing on the runway. The extremely creative designers displayed their most recent collection, enhancing the atmosphere with a fashion fiesta. Many famous people graced the front rows and the runway in what was undoubtedly a star-studded event.
Here are the hot-and-happening fashion moments straight from Day 4 of the runway!
AISHA RAO
The wide array of saris, dresses, lehengas, cholis, and dupattas, reflected some complex geometry and Spanish expressionist visuals. The colour story had large doses of Spanish red and lapis lazuli blue rendered as motifs of nature, landscapes, and sculptural forms. Upcycled fabrics were worked along with georgette dobby that sparkled with gold and silver filament, ending in a brocade-like texturing. Prints were brought in for added excitement, and shimmered with badla work, while sequins encrusted the outfits for added drama.
Tara Sutaria looked the perfect showstopper when she ended the Aisha Rao show wearing an amazingly, embellished lehenga teamed with an off-shoulder long-sleeved choli. A demure touch was added with the short, black, tulle, veil edged with pretty, floral embroidery.
VARUN AND NIDHIKA
Offering a cross-section of ensembles, the designer pair showcased structured jackets, followed by co-ord sets and elaborately designed dresses to complete the line. Draped saris were a great addition to traditional dressers.
The very effervescent Genelia Deshmukh graced the ramp as the showstopper, wearing a gorgeous, heavily, embroidered, long skirt with a fitted hip accent and an unconventional, black, draped, cape-style blouse.
GAURANG
For such a stunning look, Gaurang zeroed in on traditional weaves, rich in texture and patterns. The magnificence of silk weaves was showcased with Kanjeevaram from the South, while Paithani from Maharashtra was regal. Banaras brocades from Varanasi were majestic in form and design along with Kota, Uppada, Khadi, and the ever-popular magical muslin.
The beautiful Bollywood star, Aditi Rao Hydari was a picture of grace and elegance as she closed the grand “Sindoor” show by Gaurang wearing a glittering, gold, brocade lehenga and matching choli accessorized with a vermillion, sheer dupatta splashed with delicate, floral embroidery.
PAYAL SINGH
The silhouettes span the gamut from anti-fit and oversized to unapologetically sexy. The energy of the collection exudes a feminine edge and a deep embrace of one’s sex appeal. While the brand’s signature silhouettes like kalidar shararas and the tie-back cholis remain a constant, you can expect more experimental and deconstructed Indian wear too — pants with tie-up half lehengas, ruffled blouses, hip cut-outs, and festive pantsuits. The embroideries and prints mimic brush strokes, with a palette that uses largely neutral bases punctuated with pops of colour. Zardozi, mukaish, and woolen thread work mingle with bandhani textures in this line.
Keeping her male customers in mind, Payal designed colourful, soft, short jackets with cuffed pants, unstructured jackets with matching trousers, a bomber jacket teamed with a kurta set, kurta shirts, an ornate bundie worn with shimmering kurta/churidar set and some simple traditional kurtas.
ANUSHREE REDDY
Anushree’s characteristic aesthetics were visible in her design showcase as elegance, glitz, and glamour were in striking unison for every ensemble. Embellishments have always been Anushree’s specialty and the creative use of mystical flora and fauna came alive in signature embroidery on voluminous silhouettes. The fabric choice was rich and luxurious as exotic silks and tulle were the favored choices.
India’s ace tennis star, the lovely Sania Mirza made a showstopping entry in a gorgeous fully embroidered, white lehenga, choli, and tulle dupatta with tonal ‘latkans’ cascading down the side.
SVA BY SONAM & PARAS MODI
Vibrant prints for the predominantly western fusion silhouettes had a dreamlike quality. The rich hues of their inspiration were seen on the ramp as lush green, mint, midnight blue, off-white and rose gold pink formed a mainstay of the canvas.
The very suave and handsome Kunal Kapoor took the ramp to end the show, wearing a stylish trio in multi-coloured, vertical, broad stripes, comprising a mandarin collar shirt and fitted trousers, topped with an unstructured, wide-lapelled, trench coat with stylish epaulets.
SAMANT CHAUHAN
The Nomad Bride in collaboration with ace designer Samant Chauhan at this edition of Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI, earlier this evening. After successfully launching Queentessential, a timeless collection of hair and beauty looks for modern-day brides, last season, and the range of in-salon luxury bridal services, Beauty Sutra, Lakmé Salon strengthened its offerings with The Nomad Bride inspired by nomadic queens of Central Asia.
With actor Saiyami Kher as the showstopper, this collection added a cultural flavor to modern-day bridal looks, and impressed the audience of media, influencers, buyers and partners alike.
Day 4 indeed left us anticipating more. We can only imagine what Day 5 has in store for us!
