The much anticipated, season-fluid FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week unleashed the floodgates of fashion right from the first day, leaving the ‘phygital’ edition on the side. We saw performances on Day one, with showstoppers floating down the runway, unleashing splendour on the ramp.
Here’s what unfolded on the first day of the fashion gala:
INIFD PRESENTS GENNEXT
The 34th batch of the ‘INIFD presents GenNext’ show that opened Day One at the Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI was a creative explosion of style and fashion from five-star designers who unveiled their concepts for the season.
GenNext is one of the most popular and credible platforms for upcoming designers and so far, has established more than 200 plus designers. For its 34th batch, the winners declared were Aseem Kapoor and Pooja Haldar (Aseem Kapoor), Ateev Anand (re-), Somya Goyal (Somya Goyal), Arshna Raj (Stoïque) and Ankur Verma (TIL). The ‘INIFD presents GenNext’ programme has been recognized for identifying and providing young and talented designers with an opportunity to enhance their skills and take centre stage in the fashion industry.
MEN’S WEAR COLLECTION BY COUNTRYMADE, SNOB AND KHANIJO
To give a platform to talented designers across the fashion spectrum in India, the Fashion Design Council of India presented three labels as part of the FDCI Emerging Talent (Men’s Edit) at the Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI. Khanijo, by Gaurav Khanijo, Countrymade by Sushant Abrol and Son of a Noble SNOB by Mani Shankar Singh and Ritu Jain unveiled amazing men’s wear trend perspectives.
Inspirations for the ‘Countrymade’ label by Sushant Abrol have always been well thought out with a regimental flavour. At the event, the brand’s collection called “Homecoming” was all about longing for a friend’s return and loved ones or even a soldier that set the mood for the clothes.
Mani Shankar Singh and Ritu Jain founded the Real Design Project in 2016. Keeping an eye on minimalism and sustainability, the pair brought the label “Son of A Noble SNOB” to create meaningful menswear.
Gaurav Khanijo’s design sensibilities for menswear have always been deeply rooted in textiles, which are the basis of his eponymous brand ‘Khanijo’. This season, the ‘Khanijo’ label went in search of an immersive fashion experience. Gaurav’s collection called “Into the Labyrinth” was inspired by the Greek mythical Artificer Daedalus’s labyrinth, which was believed to be a symbol of confusion and disorientation.
THE INIFD LAUNCHPAD SHOW
The INIFD Launchpad show has been one of the most awaited events each season. This season, 14 students from the institute’s various branches in India showcased amazing creativity at Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI. The theme around, which the students worked was restricted to athleisure and streetwear that projected colourful style directions for the season.
Adding great style to the finale of the INIFD Launchpad show, was the lovely Gauhar Khan, who glided in a grey bralette with rhinestone straps, under an ink-blue one-shoulder, sheer, creation sprinkled with embroidery that was layered over an asymmetric opaque skirt.
MISHRU
The ‘Mishru’ label by Swapna Anumolu has always presented vibrant feminine collections that have been much loved by women searching for dramatic, celebratory creations. A distinct surreal feeling of fantasy enveloped the very natural, organic patterns. These were imaginatively scaled, distorted and styled to present a line of garments that brought forth a sense of immense glamour.
The glamorous Mrunal Thakur made a showstopping entry wearing a stunning, rich magenta Lehenga, choli and dupatta trio, heavily encrusted with tonal 3D floral appliqués, which will be adored by brides.
Mishru’s bridal and formal wear moved gracefully through a grand expo of lehengas, cholis, dupattas, saris, gowns, and cocktail wear, along with fusion classics. There was a fluid, dreamlike quality in the ensembles that were in rich, vibrant hues with the most lavish embellishments that highlighted the silhouettes
NOT SO SERIOUS BY PALLAVI MOHAN
Pallavi Mohan unveiled slinky gowns that would have been envied by Cinderella when she danced at the ball. Bringing the show to a glamorous end was the lovely, lissome Diana Penty, who glided in a glittering, slinky, ivory, backless gown with strategic cut-outs at the waist.
Strappy floor-kissing evening wear looked tantalising with sheer robes that were sprinkled with feathers. Glittering mini capes edged once again with feathers were a stylish addition to the evening creations. Necklines plunged dangerously low almost touching the navel for ornate maxis, while cut-outs appeared at the waist for heavily encrusted formal wear. Dramatic gowns with a hint of Grecian flavour looked regal on the runway.
GEISHA DESIGNS BY PARAS AND SHALINI
A bewitching array of chic cocktail gowns and elegant evening wear celebrated the label core design metier of ultra-feminine dressing along with a few masculine elements, which appeared in the form of vertical linear detailing. Chic, timeless and whispering joie de vivre - this painstakingly handcrafted collection at their atelier celebrated couture techniques like knotting, cording, and weaving, highlighted with artfully realised 3D florals, ruffles, tiers and bloom petals.
Making a show-stopping entry was the very glamorous Diipa Buller Khosla, internaan tionally renowned fashion and beauty influencer, who looked resplendent in an all-black, bodysuit under a sheer, strappy, mini with long, swinging, fringed hemline and the most amazing giant rosette on the bodice.
