Lakme Fashion Week S/R 2019: Asa Kazingmei, Gauri & Nainika, Varun Bahl and others put up a stellar show and convey art through fashion on Day 1

The Lakme Fashion Week S/R 2019 started with a bang and ended with one. The five-day long fashion event saw several designers take the ramp by storm.

On day one, four designers – Ajay Kumar Singh, Bobo Calcutta, Helena Bajaj Larsen and Yavi – put up a stellar show and conveyed art through fashion with the hashtag #artmeetsfashion. Asa Kazingmei, Sneha Arora, Varun Bahl, Gauri and Nainika and Rohit Bal also showcased their designs.

Ajay Kumar Singh’s collection Aquesthetic was inspired by the concept of Rig Veda and was characterized by classy, flamboyant designs in different shades of blue. The collection was ocean inspired by fluid prints, colorful outfits.

 

Bobo Calcutta's collection showcased splash of colors, prints and sequins mixed with plush white ensembles. Men’s collection consisted of high-neck cropped tops, oversized shirts while the women’s collection comprised of unusually draped saris, and knotted floor-length overcoat. Next was Yavi in line with an earthy, monotone, forest-inspired collection. It had dull yet classy colours, patchworks and layering.

 

Asa Kazingmei's edgy collection was ruled by jackets, rompers and leather. Acid-wash denim, graphic printed, goth-inspired and black colour was showcased the most. This season, Kazingmei’s Bionic collection for men was all about imagination. It comprised of futuristic designs, those that defied imagination. In contrast, Sneha Arora's collection was full of pastel, summerish and easy breezy outfits.

 

INIFD Fashion Design student groups/individuals were selected to showcase their work at Launchpad during LFW. They showcased set designing for certain studio shows at LFW with their hashtag #ProudToBeADesigner. Their gen next collection was presented by Ek Katha, Ujjwala Bhadu, Birdwalk and Sunaina Khera.

Varun Bahl presented a variety of prints, embroidery, motifs; whites majorly, pastels, light layering was highlighted.

Gauri and Nainika's summer couture was on fleek, larger than life dresses but oh-oh, Yami Gautam who turned showstopper for the designer duo 'kinda' tripped on the aisle.

Rohit Bal's Kashmir collection showcased an ode to the flowers of the valley, Kashmiri artisans, and a collection full of 'Guldastah'.
