Box Office: Fanney Khan, Mulk, Karwaan off to an extremely slow start

After a great first half where almost every film raked in moolah at the box office, 2018 has finally produced duds that too not one but three and all at the same time. Bollywood witnessed a terrible Friday yesterday when the three films, Fanney Khan, Mulk and Karwaan, fell flat on its first day collections. If they do not pick up during the weekend and the days to come then they might be pronounced as flops.

It is not because there was any dearth of stars in the films released. Fanney Khan starred Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkummar Rao in the lead, whereas Mulk had Rishi Kapoor and Taapsee Pannu leading from the front. Karwaan brought Irrfan and the Bollywood debut of southern heartthrob Dulquer Salmaan and internet sensation Mithila Palkar together. Fanney Khan managed to rake in only Rs 2.15 crore on the first day whereas Mulk garnered Rs 2 crore and Karwaan fetched only Rs 1.5 crore at the box office.

Fanney Khan is a story based on body shaming and showcases the bond shared between a father and his daughter. Anil plays the role of a failed singer-musician who harbours big dreams of seeing his daughter becoming a super successful singer. Aishwarya plays the role of Baby Singh a pop diva in the film.

Mulk is directed by Anubhav Sinha and is a topical content-driven film where Taapsee essays the role of a lawyer.

Karwaan is directed by Akarsh Khurana and brings together three different personalities together on a road trip journey which makes each of them find their inner self. Karwaan is the first film of Irrfan after he was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour, a rare form of cancer.

We hope that the three films pick up during the weekend and manage to do decent business at the box office.
