Marvel’s new film Avengers: Infinity War has collected more than Rs 30 crore on its first day at the Indian box office making it the biggest opening of this year. The film features all the superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and had a bigger opening on day one than Bahubali - The Conclusion, Dangal, PK, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Tubelight, Bodyguard, Dilwale, Raees and recent releases like Baaghi 2 and Padmavat. A report stated, “There has been no Hollywood film that has even reached 15 crore net before this film so it's almost double their best in India." Avengers: Infinity War released in India two weeks prior to being shown in the USA and other European countries.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film was expected to do well in India as the Marvel superheroes have become extremely popular but not even the trade pundits could have predicted such a whopping result on the first day itself. International tracking service ComScore had predicted a domestic opening at around $230 million opening which is still less than Star Wars: Force Awakens' $248 million weekend. However, a ComScore was quoted as saying, “If any film has a shot at beating Force Awakens' record, its Infinity War." He further said, “Infinity War has a must-see factor built on the concept of bringing together of an almost unimaginable array of top Marvel characters in one enormous cinematic extravaganza.”
The appeal of Infinity War is that it brings all the Marvel superheroes in one movie. In the film the Avengers team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange to fight Thanos. The trailer of the film had garnered immense views online and the audience was very excited for the movie to release. It looks like the step of releasing the film in India before the US and the European markets proved beneficial for the filmmakers.
