Neena Gupta, Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh, John Abraham and Aditi Rao Hydari are gearing up for the digital release of Kaashvie Nair's Sardar Ka Grandson. The film will premiere on Netflix on May 18 and it revolves around a grandson's determination and struggles to fulfil his grandmother's wish of going to Lahore to visit her bungalow. Sardar Ka Grandson travels across several generations and two countries promising a ride to remember. Ahead of the film's release, Neena, Arjun, Kaashvie and Rakul sat down for an interview with PeepingMoon.
In the exclusive interview, Neena and Arjun spoke about how the film offers a different take on India-Pakistan and there is no space for hatred in Sardar Ka Grandson. Talking about the love story the film deals with, Neena said, "Humlog hai na love matlab voh sex wala love sochte hai. But there are so many other things also. We are very shy to call it love. If I like you, I won't come and say I love you and hug you. No, usmein toh sharam aati hai, yeh toh sirf boyfriend girlfriend mein hi hota hai. In this film, it is a love story between Sardar and her grandson and why not. I remember when I was younger, we used to be so shy to pronounce the word love. Now, I'm getting rid of that thing. After I got an award for Badhaai Ho, I told 'I love you' to my director Amit Sharma, I say 'I love you' to so many people. Now, that thing is broken. Yeh Sardar aur grandson ki love story hai aur aise kabhi bane nahi.
Arjun added to Neena's statement, "Log to pyaar rakhte hi hai. Agar aap humare film ki end dekho toh voh ek situation aati hai jaha I turn around and say a very important line which I love- "Aap chahe jaise bhi ho aapke mulk ke log acche hai." Every country, every city, every place has 99% of good people, 1% log ke saath kuch nokjhok ho jaati hai. The core essence is that the boy's experience over there overwhelms him and compels him to realise that it is a different kind of love. Love transcends relationships and this film is an example of that."
